
M.Gorky Donetsk National Medical University (DNMU), one of the largest and best medical universities of the former USSR, was established in 1930 as M.Gorky Donetsk Medical Institute and in 1994 it was given the status of University.
More than 40,000 highly qualified doctors, well-known scientists, researchers, health service organizers from Ukraine, Russia, other ex-soviet republics, as well as from 89 countries of Asia, Africa, Europe and America have graduated during the 78 years of DNMU existence.
Due to the high teaching standards M.Gorky Donetsk National Medical University has been recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and is registered as "Doneck Medical University" on page No. 59 of 104 in WHO Medical University's Web page (http://www.who.int/hrh/documents/en/wdms_R-Z.pdf). >>

The city of Donetsk is one of the biggest regional centers in Ukraine. It covers 381 square kilometers, with a population of 1,131,700.
The town was officially named "Donetsk" in 1869 replacing a former Cossack settlement. Both the growing number of coal mines and the establishment of the Novorossiyskaya Company with its metallurgical plant spurred the growth of Donetsk.
For a large industrial town, Donetsk is especially beautiful and very green. It is made up of 9 districts which are linked together by tram, trolley and bus routes.
